Experience an exclusive cultural evening at Kunsthal Rotterdam, hosted by the Erasmus Alumni Club. This first edition of the Art & Culture Circle marks the start of a new tradition: bringing alumni together around inspiring art in one of Rotterdam’s most iconic cultural institutions. For this inaugural event, the Kunsthal opens two exhibitions privately for our alumni, creating an evening shaped especially for this group.
Step into the imaginative world of David Shrigley. What the Hell Was I Thinking? and the powerful, deeply personal stories of rot•zooi. You can join a guided tour or explore at your own pace as the exhibitions unfold exclusively for the Circle.
After the exhibition visit, you are invited to the Kunsthalcafé for drinks and conversations with fellow alumni. Whether you come for the art, the inspiration, or the community, the evening is designed to offer a memorable cultural experience.

David Shrigley. What the Hell Was I Thinking?
With his dryly comic drawings, absurdist installations and sharp observations, British artist David Shrigley (1968) offers a humorous yet critical perspective on life and the art world. In the exhibition What the Hell Was I Thinking?, on view at Kunsthal Rotterdam from Saturday 13 December, Shrigley turns that gaze onto himself for the first time, giving visitors a glimpse inside his mind. Throughout the exhibition, he adds commentary with witty observations in which he critically examines both society and his own work. The exhibition reveals how he looks back at earlier works, re-stages ideas, and creates space for doubt. For Shrigley, being an artist is not about lofty genius, but about a process full of experimentation and reflection.

ROT•ZOOI
In rot•zooi, a project born out of the ruins of the childcare benefits scandal, seven young people from Rotterdam transform their personal stories into powerful works of art. Their work, the result of a creative programme at Theater Rotterdam, will be on view at the Kunsthal from Saturday 20 February to Sunday 15 March. The exhibition presents deeply personal artworks that testify to resilience, creativity and a fierce drive to claim the space they deserve.
