Workshop | Wim Hof Theory & Icebath | for Young Alumni

Regulate your body and strengthen your mind with the Wim Hof Method!

The cold isn’t always ‘cool’. Freezing environments can be more than uncomfortable – they can be dangerous. Yet the Dutch ‘Iceman’ Wim Hof has shown the human body can still operate well in temperatures far below zero. He has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in shorts, ran a half marathon in the arctics barefoot and was covered in ice cubes for 112 minutes. How is this possible?

In the last 10 years, science has been developing an understanding of the remarkable exploits of Wim Hof. ‘The Iceman’ has also integrated the lessons he learned into the Wim Hof Method, and in this workshop you will learn about the method and the science behind it. Plus, you’ll get to practise it for yourself.

The importance of learning about breath

Oxygen is important for the processes in your body, and the way you breathe has a deep impact on your physiology. Your autonomous nervous system and your immune system are influenced by your breathing patterns – and you can learn to regulate these to an extent. Learning to breathe better will help you calm down, feel better and become healthier. People tend to be in their heads a lot, thinking. That can be useful for solving certain problems, but your awareness shouldn’t only remain upstairs. This workshop will teach you how to connect with your body through breathing.

Ruben Oude Rikmanspoel has been trained by Wim Hof to teach this method. Ruben will provide the workshop and will give you the experience how your body reacts to cold and where you will experience the effects of breathing techniques in influencing your autonomous nervous system. (This ice bath is not required.) Ruben will be joined by an expert on the human body, and together they will delve into physiology and the influence you and your mindset have on it.

This workshop is usually given in a different format by Ruben, costing 99 euros. Our young alumni can join this event on 26 October for only €10,00

The workshop leaders

Ruben has been trained and certified by Wim Hof himself to teach his methodology. He has also founded The Air Academy, an organisation combining the strengths of different breath coaches, and he works there as a breath coach himself. To him, connection is the most important thing in life, and he has found breath to play a fundamental role in connecting better with yourself and your environment.

Matthijs Kox, assistant professor, senior researcher IC, science educator Radboud MC. Will explain what science has learned about the ability of human bodies to withstand extreme colds and how mindset and breathwork can regulate physiology.
